Academatic is a privately funded startup. Academatic was started in April, 2009 as a place for the students to interact and socialize.
Where did the idea came from?
Earlier the idea was to start a new project for social networking for passout graduates and undergraduates.
Basic idea was to allow everyone who was a graduate or a graduation student to join for free, provide a place where they would interact, share their personal and professional lives but owing to the pressure that there are so many social networking site out there, we changed it to the current one where students all over the world get together, interact, discuss and learn.
How is Academatic built?
Academatic is mostly built on php with CSS support. It is powered by WordPress MU blogging platform and BuddyPress and the forums are powered by bbPress.
Academatic uses LaTeX for functions,equations support and uses LaTeX server of wordpress.com
